“To create one's own world takes courage.”

GEORGIA O'KEEFE

Art has always been at the heart of the Vose brand.  Our founder and Creative Director, Sara Roitman, grew up immersed in the world of fine art, surrounded by her family’s gallery and design store.  Our passion for art and creative expression is woven into the fabric of our spaces, where original and vintage paintings, photography, and sculpture play a central role in our designs.

Through our Artist Residency program, we invite creatives of all mediums to experience the natural beauty of Lake Michigan and our surrounding countryside—a setting that offers both inspiration and the freedom to create.   This residency is not about output.  It is about space — to think, to notice, to create without urgency.  Our goal is to provide artists with the physical and mental space to explore, reflect, and grow, all while fostering creativity in an environment of serenity and beauty.

ARTIST RESIDENCY

Megan Parker of Moving Alters was our Spring 2025 Vose artist in residence.  She’s a contemporary fine artist known for creating calm, atmospheric pieces inspired by organic textures, changing landscapes, and elements from the natural world.

Lately, Megan has been especially drawn to water. Her work looks at how water can reflect, obscure, and reshape the physical world around us, while also calming our inner world within.

Originally from Wisconsin, Megan now lives and works in Chicago. She’s shown her work in a range of solo and group exhibitions, including shows in Austin and Round Top, Texas.

There is something about spring on Lake Michigan — the thawed earth, the lengthening light, the first quiet green along the meadow — that feels like permission to begin again.

Our second annual Vose Artist Residency runs from April 26 to May 1, 2026.  It is a five-day, slow and intentional retreat designed for creatives whose work is rooted in observation, beauty, and a sense of place.  During the residency, the selected artist will have the entire Asher property to themselves - a rare opportunity for uninterrupted time, quiet, and space to create.

FAQs

FAQs

What types of artists are INVITED?

We welcome artists of all mediums - painters, sculptors, poets, photographers, illustrators, watercolorists, writers, textile designers, and many more.

WHAT is PROVIDED?

We provide five (5) nights of private accommodation at the Asher to live and work during your stay (i.e., you will not share the space with others).  Artists are responsible for bringing their own materials and food as well as cleaning up any materials upon their departure.  You are also responsible for all travel costs.

This time is entirely yours and the goal is to foster artists' creative process in a setting free from the day-to-day distractions of our regular lives.   To capitalize on this, we kindly limit guests to a maximum of one guest during your stay.    You are also welcome to bring your dog if you like!

We do not place any requirements on artists in terms of donating work, sales, or mandatory programming.   We look forward to showcasing Vose artists on our social media and website - always with credit, of course, and incorporating Vose artists' work in our spaces whenever possible.
